Hamata Kite Village - Trip Report

Wind & Spot Conditions
Heading to Hamata in November feels like a gamble, regarding to kitewind.eu statistics it's the least windy month of the year. But this trip proved that stats aren't everything. I ended up kiting every single day, riding my Harlem Thrive 12 m paired with a 135 cm board.
The wind was remarkably consistent, which is a huge plus for anyone who values reliability. But let's be honest: the strength wasn't always impressive. Most riders on the beach were flying 15 m or even 17 m kites, often combined with door-style boards to squeeze out every knot. My Thrive's excellent low-end definitely saved my sessions, though a larger board would have made things even more playful.
Based on this week, I'd say Hamata is kiteable year-round. In the windier months according to kitewind.eu, I expect to be more than happy on a 12m, and even a 9m. I will probably try it out in March again.
If you're someone who enjoys light-wind cruising, or you simply want the comfort of daily rideability in winter, Hamata is a great call. And in spring and autumn, I guess the spot becomes ideal for all riders.
What makes Hamata truly shine, especially for beginners, is the huge, uncrowded lagoon with endless knee- to hip-deep water. It's a forgiving playground for progression, freeride or just effortless cruising. There is a kitesurf school too.
Accommodation & Surroundings
I stayed at Kite Village, conveniently located just across the road from the kite station. The rooms are spacious, the vibe relaxed, and being close to the spot is really nice.
But be aware: there is absolutely nothing else around. If you want to see anything beyond the hotel-kite-station-school bubble, you'll need a driver. That said, the kite station itself is a really chilled place to spend the day, even off the water.
Workation Suitability
Workation? Possible, but not ideal.
- No proper desk setup anywhere.
- Internet is 4G only, no Wi-Fi.
- Reception is medium, fine for browsing, messaging, uploading, and likely okay for most tasks except stable video calls, I assume.
If you depend on a reliable digital workspace, keep expectations low or bring your own setup.
Extra Tip: Seamanrace & Testival
Each spring, the kite station hosts the annual Seamanrace, a fun and friendly competition for anyone who can ride upwind, plus a large testival with lots of gear to try. I think this is definitely worth checking out if you want to combine your trip with an event.
